10 Steps to Living an Abundant Life

10 steps to living an abundant life Feb 18, 2020

“The key to abundance is meeting limited circumstances with unlimited thoughts.” - Marianne Williamson

Step 1: Self Reflect

Are we willing to look inside our hearts and see both the areas we are failing and the places we are succeeding? Knowing what’s inside enables us to stop reacting blindly and start living in abundance!

  • Tell yourself the truth about where you are in life.

    • Be Authentic!

    • Don’t think you are better than you really are.

    • Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves

  • Use the abundant life quiz as an opportunity to do some honest reflection.

  • Have humility to ask yourself the hard questions and identify your pain points.

Step 2: Embody the 3 G’s

The ‘3 G’s’ are Grateful, Generous and Gracious. These three words are impacting enough to transform our entire lives if we put them to practice.

Be Grateful

What are you most grateful for?

  • Don’t be picky, appreciate everything

  • Be thankful for the challenges you’ve faced

  • Show appreciation to the people in your life

Be Generous

Give everything away without any expectations.

  • Give your time,

  • Give your treasures.

  • Give your talents.

Be Gracious

Treat others how you would want to be treated.

  • Be thoughtful

  • Be kind

  • Be compassionate

Step 3: Set Lofty Goals

Everything starts with your head & heart. We have to give ourselves permission to dream big! We are invited to a life of endless possibilities and unstoppable potential. Each of us is created with a specific set of gifts, a unique personality with likes and dislikes, an original story that brings us to this exact moment. This is the place where we are free to dream. Your hands & habits turn your dreams into reality.

Below are the 8 steps to setting lofty goals:

  1. Dream big

  2. Be SMART

  3. Discover your why

  4. Break it into smaller steps

  5. Take action to build momentum

  6. Celebrate your wins

  7. Find people you can learn from

  8. Ask someone to hold you accountable

Step 4: Find Your Purpose

We are all on a quest to discover what purpose, cause, or belief drives us. When you ask the following questions and discover the things in your life that meet all four quadrants, it will help guide you toward a life of fulfillment.

  • What do you love?

  • What are you great at?

  • What do you get paid for?

  • What does the world need?

Step 5: Change the Way You Think

Your mindset is your choice! Only you get to decide if you will live from a scarcity mindset or an abundant mindset. What type of mindset do you live from?

Abundant Mindset

  • There is more than enough.

  • Instead of choosing either/or, you believe you can have both.

  • You see opportunities

Scarcity Mindset

  • You believe there will never be enough, causing fear, anxiety, and stress.

  • You answer “either/or”, but never “both”

  • You choose security above love

  • You choose safety before self-expression

  • You choose protection over possibility

The following thoughts are roadblocks to an abundant mindset.

  • Fear

  • Pride

  • Negative Self Talk

  • Limiting Belief

Step 6: Develop Healthy Habits

We all have habits. The question is, are they habits that are building the life we want, or habits that are building something else entirely? We’ve heard the old adage “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. It was built one brick at a time. Our habits are individual bricks that build our lives.

You are the sum of your daily disciplines.

  • What do you need to start?

  • What do you need to stop?

Step 7: Attract Opportunities

As we grow in each of the seven pillars of life - finance, fitness, friends, family, faith, field and fun – we are cultivating a balanced, attractive life.

  • Keep setting new goals.

  • Never get lazy or complacent

  • Surround yourself with good people.

  • Get out of your comfort zone.

Step 8: Embrace the Disciplined Pursuit of Less

As we embrace the disciplined pursuit of less, we exchange chaos for peace. It requires intentionality to choose the most valuable pursuits and say ‘no’ to the rest.

  • Be intentional about doing the most essential things first.

  • Learn how to say no.

  • Stop trying to do it all.

  • Rest!

Step 9: Be a Good Student

Cultivating curiosity allows us to remain in the posture of a learner. To wonder and be curious is a gift that engages us with life and brings a sense of joy and satisfaction.

  • Enjoy learning

  • Remain humble

  • Ask great questions

  • Listen

Step 10: Lead

When we live with an abundant mindset, knowing there will always be enough, our lives become an invitation for others to enter the same lifestyle. Whether we intend to or not we model something with our lives. And people will follow us for better or for worse. Leadership should look like:

  • Serving others

  • Putting the needs of others ahead of ourselves

  • Doing life together (side-by-side)
